Welcome to PSSM.eu

PSSM is a hereditary muscle disease that affects a vast number of horse breeds. PSSM stands for PolySaccharide Storage Myopathy – a muscle disease characterised by a glycogen (sugar) storage problem. The catch-all term PSSM is still also used to describe other muscle related problems, mainly those that have been discovered following the original research into PSSM type 1. This site discusses PSSM type 1 as well as muscle issues related to the research into PSSM type 1: PSSM2/MIM and IMM/MYH.

This site was started to fulfil the need for an independent, centralised place for “everything PSSM”, ranging from information about the different types of PSSM, how to test for PSSM to how to manage a horse that has PSSM.
